World Coach of the Year 2014: Löw and Meinert among the candidates

DFB-Team coach Joachim Löw, fresh from winning the World Cup in the summer, can now set his sights on winning a prestigious international award. The 54-year-old is one of the three candidates up for the title of the World Coach of the Year. Aside from Löw, the other two choices nominated for the best coach in 2014 are Carlo Ancelotti of Champions League winners Real Madrid and Diego Simeone of the Spanish league champions Atletico Madrid.

Last year’s award was won by Jupp Heynckes, who had won the treble with Bayern München. The announcement of his successor and the award ceremony itself will take place on the 12th January 2015 at the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala in Zurich.

Women's award: Meinert and Kellermann are nominated

The coach of the FIFA U20 World Cup winning side Maren Meinert and Ralf Kellermann, coach of the two-time Champions League winners VfL Wolfsburg, have once again been nominated for the Women’s Coach of the Year award. The coach of the Japan national team Norio Sasaki is the other nominee alongside Meinert and Kellermann.
