Gwinn named Germany’s women’s Footballer of the Year 2026

Germany captain Giulia Gwinn has retained her title as Germany’s women’s Footballer of the Year. After sharing the award with goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger last year, the defender came out on top outright this time with 106 of the 618 votes cast by members of the German Sports Journalists’ Association (VDS). Her Germany teammates Klara Bühl (94 votes) and Jule Brand (82) finished second and third respectively.
Winning the award again is “an honour and a recognition of how far I’ve come, but to be honest, I wasn’t expecting it,” said Gwinn, who won the domestic double with FC Bayern last season.
The women’s Footballer of the Year award has been organised by sports magazine kicker since 1996. Birgit Prinz holds the record with eight titles, all won consecutively between 2001 and 2008.
