Borussia Dortmund against SV Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV against Eintracht Frankfurt will each bring together two clubs who have won the competition multiple times in the past. Elsewhere, 1. FC Köln host 1. FC Union Berlin, while SC Paderborn welcome last season’s runners-up VfB Stuttgart.

Holders FC Bayern have been handed a home tie against second-tier side 1. FC Magdeburg. Borussia Mönchengladbach (against Karlsruher SC), Bayer Leverkusen (against 1. FC Nürnberg), SC Freiburg (against VfL Wolfsburg) and SV Elversberg (against SV Darmstadt 98) will also host opposition from a lower division.
