Nagelsmann: “The team gave everything to win the game”

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann and his players were pleased with Germany’s away win in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final with Italy. DFB.de has all the reaction from their 2-1 win in Milan.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann: I’m pleased that we came back from 1-0 down. We didn’t just want to play it tactically. We wanted to win both matches. The first half was tough, because we found it hard to get into a rhythm. We made a few changes at the break and the players who came on did well. Leon Goretzka had a great game, and for me he was player of the match today. The team gave everything to win the game.
Joshua Kimmich: We’re very happy with this win, particularly after how we started the game. We knew that the Italians would let us have the ball, but at first we didn’t have the players to get into the box. Our aim was to put one or two crosses in.
Leon Goretzka: The national anthem moved me more than I thought it would. I’m very happy to have played here today. Obviously, you sometimes dream of scoring the winning goal, but the fact it actually happened is the cherry on top.
Oliver Baumann: Today was just great. It was so enjoyable to play alongside this team. I’m very happy with this win.
Tim Kleindienst: I think it was important that we started the second half well. We put in an unbelievably good away performance and deserved to win the match. It was incredibly enjoyable.
