HSV and Bochum progress to second round after extra-time

Oberliga side FK Pirmasens and Hamburger SV fought out a wild game which the lower-division side only narrowly lost. The fifth-tier team conceded a late equaliser at the death in normal time before HSV scored again in extra time to make it 2-1. Elsewhere, Regionalliga side BFC Dynamo welcomed second-division VfL Bochum to the capital, in a game that looked like it could turn into an upset, however they were forced to admit defeat after Bochum made it 3-1 after extra time.
Fifth tier Pirmasens lose thriller to HSV
Despite playing a team four divisions lower than them, HSV made life extremely difficult for themselves right from the beginning. Pirmasens were able to create some good chances in front of an atmospheric crowd, despite having significantly less possession than their opponents. Thomas Selensky was twice unable to keep his composure in front of goal (9’, 45’+1) while striker Marc Erhart smashed a volley onto the crossbar from six metres out (45’+1). The side from Hamburg looked the most dangerous through free kicks from Miro Muheim.
HSV made three changes during the break to bring some fresh energy to the pitch, however, it was the underdogs who struck first. After a cross from Kevin Büchler, Grieß – a self-proclaimed HSV fan – found himself in the perfect position to prod home (53’). Pirmasens then almost struck again, not once, but twice, through Grieß (56’) and Dennis Krob (58’), whose shot from a tight angle was cleared off the line by Muheim.
The Rothosen only began to look threatening in the last 20 minutes, as a first-time shot from Warmed Omari cannoned off the bar (72’). The guests began to apply more and more pressure before finally getting their goal in injury time. Guilherme Ramos scored with a powerful header in the second minute of added time to send the game into extra-time. The fifth tier side began to wane towards the end of extra time, while HSV began to show their individual class. Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer then scored the winning goal for HSV in the 100th minute, sealing them a spot in the second round.
Regionalliga side see red twice
In Berlin, VfL Bochum seemed to have everything under control, despite failing to turn any of their chances into goals. Mats Pannewig missed a diving header (13’) after coming on as a substitute early on due to an injury to Ibrahima Sissoko, while Philipp Hofmann was unable to force the ball past Nicolas Ortegel in the Dynamo goal, despite only being a couple of metres out.
The home side retaliated at the start of the second half after a solo run from Jan Shcherbakovski, who then fired the ball into the bottom right corner from 30 metres out – only 29 seconds after the restart. Bochum showed good character after conceding, but still couldn’t fashion any real chances in front of the opponents goal. Down the other end, Rufat Dadashov (68’) nearly made it two for the Regionalliga side.
A cynical foul on Bochum’s Samuel Bamba by Larry-Nana Oellers (80’) saw the home side reduced to ten men before Noah Loosli pounced on a rebound five minutes later and equalised. Bochum looked to apply more pressure in their search for a second goal, as the home side saw red again, this time for captain Dadashov, whose tackle on Cajetan Lenz was deemed to be worthy of a sending off. Bochum sealed the win in the second half of extra-time with goals from Bamba (106’) and Bero (120’+1).
