Wück announces squad for UEFA Women’s EUROs in Switzerland

National team head coach Christian Wück announced his squad for the UEFA Women’s EUROs in Switzerland on Thursday. The Germany women’s national team cohort comprises 20 outfield players and three goalkeepers and is led by captain Giulia Gwinn (FC Bayern München).
The squad consists of a mixture of regulars and players unburdened by the weight of expectation. The most experienced heads are possessed by Sara Däbritz (Olympique Lyon) on 108 caps, Kathrin Hendrich (VfL Wolfsburg) on 83 and Lea Schüller (FC Bayern München), who has made 75 appearances for Germany to date. A total of 11 members from the group that reached the final of the UEFA Women’s EUROs in England three years ago have been nominated again this time around. Seven players are set to feature in a major tournament with the women’s national side for the first time, including Carlotta Wamser (Eintracht Frankfurt), Franziska Kett (FC Bayern München) and Rebecca Knaak (Manchester City), who each made their senior Germany debut this year.
Wück: "I have full faith in my players"
Christian Wück: “We are really looking forward to the tournament. The last few matches of our Nations League campaign provided added self-confidence, so we head into this European Championship even stronger and with a great deal of optimism. I am sure in my mind that we have put together a good and balanced squad, which will enable us to find the right solutions to tackle the challenges a tournament may throw our way. It is important to me that decisions made were never against a player, rather always in favour of one, and we made each with great conviction. I have full faith in my players and in our decisions and I am sure that we will deliver a successful European Championship campaign with this squad. We want to play with a mixture of fun, enthusiasm, will and conviction, which are the values that this squad represents. If we manage to do that, we can go a long way.”
The women’s national team arrive at their team base camp for the European Championship at the adidas HomeGround in Herzogenaurach on 19th June. The group stage sees Germany face Poland in St. Gallen (4th July, 21:00 CEST), Denmark in Basel (8th July, 18:00 CEST) and Sweden in Zurich (12th July, 21:00 CEST).
