Borussia Dortmund booked the penultimate undecided spot in the second round of the 2026/27 DFB-Pokal with a comfortable victory away at Hamburg Eimsbütteler Ballspiel Club, better known as HEBC. The Bundesliga side beat the Hamburg Oberliga outfit 5-0 in front of a 45,917-strong crowd at Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion – a record attendance figure for a match involving a fifth-tier club. HEBC captain Janek Wrede put the ball into his own net to give BVB the initial 1-0 lead (33’), before Daniel Svensson doubled Dortmund’s advantage three minutes later (36’). Samuele Inacio then struck twice before half-time (41’, 45+2’) to put the visitors firmly in control. Fabio Silva added a fifth after the break (59’).

HEBC put in a passionate defensive effort from the outset. Dortmund’s first efforts from Marcel Sabitzer (3’) and Inacio (5’) missed the target, while Robert Schick saw a counter-attack come to nothing for the hosts (6’). HEBC looked to create opportunities on the break with long balls, while BVB predictably enjoyed the lion’s share of possession.
Inacio came close to opening the scoring in the 11th minute, but could only find the side netting from a tight angle. Otherwise, the Bundesliga side struggled to create clear-cut chances against a deep-lying HEBC defence. Their first real opening came in the 25th minute, when HEBC goalkeeper Jannik Schoon produced an excellent save to deny Felix Nmecha from just over 12 yards out.

Own goal breaks the deadlock

Schoon then kept out Mathis Albert’s long-range effort at the near post (30’). The pressure was mounting, though, and Sabitzer headed narrowly wide moments later (32’). Dortmund needed a helping hand from their hosts to break the deadlock, in the end. Centre-half Wrede slipped as he tried to deal with Julian Ryerson’s cross and inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Ryerson also provided the assist for Dortmund’s second, with Svensson firing home first time from close range. Inacio added a third before half-time, beating the keeper at his near post by slipping the ball through his legs. Schoon then made another good save to deny Albert (44’), but there was nothing he could do shortly afterwards as Inacio’s perfectly placed effort struck the inside of the post before crossing the line to make it 4-0 at the break.

Silva rounds off the scoring

BVB remained in control after the restart, and Waldemar Anton almost added a fifth straight away, but his header flew narrowly wide (52’). Carney Chukwuemeka was also unable to beat Schoon’s replacement, Nils Ahmann, who had come on to guard the HEBC goal in the second half (54’). Silva did find a way through shortly before the hour mark, calmly slotting home a low finish across the face of goal after the hosts carelessly gave the ball away.

Joey Veerman came close to making it six moments later, but his effort was directed at the side netting (61’). HEBC continued to throw everything into their defensive effort, restricting the favourites to relatively few high-quality chances. Konstantinos Karetsas tested Ahmann from 18 yards out (81’), while Silva was denied a second by a fine reaction save from the goalkeeper (85’). The scoreline remained unchanged until the final whistle, with Dortmund safely through to the second round.
