Five players return to Wück’s squad

National team head coach Christian Wück has announced the Germany women’s squad for the upcoming UEFA Women’s Nations League games against the Netherlands (30th May in Bremen) and Austria (3rd June in Vienna). 22 outfield players and three goalkeepers have been called up.
Christian Wück commented: “We decided to select 25 players for this next round of international fixtures, which gives us the chance to once again learn more about our players and to hand them another opportunity to impress ahead of this summer’s European Championship. Once we start preparing for the tournament in June, we want a 23-player squad to ensure everyone has clarity nice and early on. We are particularly pleased to welcome back some players from injury for these upcoming Nations League games.”
Lena Oberdorf back from injury
Lena Oberdorf (FC Bayern München), Kathrin Hendrich (VfL Wolfsburg) and Rebecca Knaak (Manchester City) have all been recalled following their respective injuries. Defender Sara Doorsoun (Eintracht Frankfurt), who missed the last two UEFA Women’s Nations League games against Scotland, is also available again. Goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic (FC Bayern München) and Carlotta Wamser (Eintracht Frankfurt) have both made a return to the squad.
21-year-old Wamser has featured regularly for Germany’s U23s in recent times, having most recently been called up to the senior side in June 2023. Alara Şehitler (FC Bayern München) misses out on the squad due to her A-level exams taking place at the same time. Attacker Nicole Anyomi (Eintracht Frankfurt) was unable to be selected due to injury.
There are a total of 10 players currently on the standby list, six of which are in the U23 squad: Gia Corley (San Diego Wave), Vivien Endemann (VfL Wolfsburg), Lisanne Gräwe (Eintracht Frankfurt), Shekiera Martinez (West Ham United), Sophie Weidauer (Werder Bremen) and goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe (SC Freiburg).
“A great way to prepare for the European Championship”
Christian Wück added: “The upcoming Nations League games will decide who reaches the finals, in particular the clash with the Netherlands which will determine who finishes first in our group. This game is a great way to prepare for the European Championship. We want to win both fixtures, not just to reach the finals but also to take another important step in our preparations for this summer’s tournament. We are looking forward to a big crowd in Bremen in particular. I’m sure it will give the team an additional boost.”
Christian Wück’s team will meet up this Sunday in Bremen, where their last home game before this summer’s European Championship takes place on 30th May. Over 27,000 tickets have been sold already for the clash with the Netherlands.
The DFB-Frauen then head to Vienna on 31st May for their fixture against Austria on 3rd June, their final group game in the UEFA Women’s Nations League.
