DFB extends contracts of Wück, Meinert and Bartusiak until 2029

The German Football Association (DFB) has extended the contracts of women’s national team head coach Christian Wück and his assistant coaches Maren Meinert and Saskia Bartusiak until August 2029. The trio are now set to be in charge for the next three tournaments, with their side heading to the Women’s World Cup in 2027, before the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and the 2029 Women’s EUROs on home soil. The supervisory board and shareholders' meeting of DFB GmbH & Co. KG decided on Friday.
Head coach Christian Wück said: “I’m really grateful for the trust that has been placed in me and my coaching team. It’s a great privilege to carry on in this special job and have the chance to accompany the team to three major tournaments. I’m even more pleased that Maren, Saskia and I can continue with the team on the journey we have embarked on together. Saskia and Maren don’t just bring extraordinary expertise – they are also fantastic people. We complement each other ideally in both our work and our perspectives on things. All of our decisions in the future, like before, will be made with the team at the heart of them. Our goal is to ensure the best possible development of each individual player and play courageous and successful football in order to continue growing together as a team.”
Neuendorf: “Continue on this successful journey”
DFB-President Bernd Neuendorf said: “Christian Wück and his team have not only brought the team into another important stage of development, but they have also been bold in placing trust in younger players. The team has grown under their leadership and impresses with their confident, dynamic and inspiring play. We are delighted to continue with him on this successful journey, along with his assistants Maren Meinert and Saskia Bartusiak. The contract extensions give the coaching team, the players and the federation the necessary security, meaning focus can now turn fully towards a successful World Cup qualifying campaign.”
Andreas Rettig, managing director of sport for DFB GmbH & Co. KG said: “Christian Wück, Maren Meinert and Saskia Bartusiak have done exemplary work since taking over and have developed the team positively through their clear and consistent approach. We are extremely happy that they can now continue their work well into the future. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the straightforward nature of the negotiations. We reached an agreement very quickly and needed no longer than the length of a football match to sort everything out.”
Künzer: “Clear vision and courageous decisions”
Sporting director Nia Künzer said: “I’m very pleased that we can continue on this journey with Christian Wück, Maren Meinert and Saskia Bartusiak. Over the past year and a half, the coaching team, led by Christian Wück, has succeeded in ensuring that our team has undergone a noticeable and pleasing development through their clear vision and courageous decisions. We were successful last year in reaching the semi-finals of the EUROs and the final of the Nations League – these are things we can be proud of. Nevertheless, our goal remains to win titles again and to continuously develop with this goal in mind. We want to work together on this in the coming years, especially with a view towards the 2029 EUROs on home soil. Right now, our full focus is on qualifying for the 2027 World Cup.”
