Germany to play Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg in their World Cup qualification group

After booking their place in the final four of the Nations League for the first time ever, Germany now know their opponents for their World Cup qualification campaign. Julian Nagelsmann’s team will be in group A along with Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg.
The four-time World Cup winners begin their qualification campaign on 4th September in Slovakia. That is followed by the first home game against Northern Ireland in Cologne three days later.
Group winners will qualify directly for the World Cup
The next fixture is in Sinsheim on 10th October against Luxembourg, before the return fixture against Northern Ireland (13/10). The group then finishes in November with an away game against Luxembourg (14/11) and the visit of Slovakia to Leipzig (17/11).
The group winner will qualify directly for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, while the team that finishes second will have to compete in the play-offs. Germany’s next fixtures, however, will be the final four of the Nations League in Munich and Stuttgart. If Germany had not progressed past the quarter-finals against Italy last night, they would have been in a qualification group with Norway, Israel, Estonia and Moldova instead.
