DFB confirms host cities for Women’s EURO 2029 bid

The Presidential Board of the German Football Association (DFB) has today confirmed the eight host cities that will be included in Germany’s official bid dossier for UEFA Women’s EURO 2029. The venues selected by the DFB Presidential Board as part of the national selection process are, in alphabetical order: Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich and Wolfsburg.
In reaching its decision, the Presidential Board followed the recommendation of a panel of DFB experts. Together with an internal DFB working group, the panel reviewed and evaluated the bid submissions of the eleven cities and stadiums that had made it through the initial phase of the national selection process. Alongside the eight selected host cities, Berlin, Gelsenkirchen and Rostock had also submitted bids.
UEFA to announce host nation in December 2025
As part of the final selection process, the stadiums were divided into four categories based on capacity. The highest-rated stadium in each category was automatically selected. The remaining four host cities were chosen based on the final rankings and on strategic considerations outlined in the DFB’s bidding regulations – such as economic viability, regional balance, and alignment with UEFA’s tournament requirements. The chosen cities represent the best possible combination to support a strong international bid to UEFA.
To ensure a fair and transparent selection process, the entire procedure was accompanied from a compliance perspective by Sylvia Schenk (Transparency International Germany), Sebastian Grassl (DFB Compliance), and Professor Dr Holger Preuß (Institute of Sports Science at the University of Mainz).
The final bid documents must be submitted to UEFA by 27th August 2025. UEFA’s Executive Committee will announce the host nation for UEFA Women’s EURO 2029 in December 2025.
Neuendorf: “Momentum and confidence”
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf said the DFB was confident in its choices: “We believe we have selected the right host cities and that this line-up gives us a strong chance in the race to host the Women’s EURO 2029. It was impressive to see just how much effort and enthusiasm each of the applicants brought to the table – among eleven strong cities and stadiums, we were able to identify eight that truly stood out in the final phase of the national process. This gives us momentum and confidence as we move into the international bidding phase. And when it comes to the selected venues, we can say: Germany is ready to host another major football festival in 2029.”
DFB General Secretary Heike Ullrich added: “On behalf of the DFB, I would like to thank all applicants. All eleven cities submitted strong bids, and the quality of their documents and presentations made our decision far from easy – that applies equally to Berlin, Gelsenkirchen and Rostock. I also want to thank everyone involved in the selection process. We will present UEFA and its Executive Committee with a top-class bid and hope that this will lead to Germany being awarded the tournament come December.”
