Ann-Katrin Berger back for Nations League final

Germany coach Christian Wück has named his squad ahead of his side’s upcoming UEFA Women’s Nations League final against Spain. Four players make a return to the squad, as goalkeepers Ann-Katrin Berger (Gotham FC) and Ena Mahmutovic (FC Bayern München) are available for selection again, as are defenders Rebecca Knaak (Manchester City) and Sarai Linder (VfL Wolfsburg). Lisanne Gräwe (Eintracht Frankfurt) is back in the senior side, having spent some time with Michael Urbansky’s U23s, while Carlotta Wamser (Bayer 04 Leverkusen) misses out due to injury.
Wück: “We haven’t made any major changes from the semi-final games against France, apart from welcoming some players back. Our focus is now on two important games. It’s our first final for a long time and exactly the sort of thing you play football for. We’re playing against the best team in Europe right now. It’s a big challenge, but something we’re looking forward to as a team and will be very well prepared for. We’re also looking forward to the support from the Germany fans, especially at the last home game of the year in Kaiserslauten. The fans’ support has been outstanding the whole year, whether it’s been at the EUROs in Switzerland or at our Nations League games. The support gives us a lot of energy, which is something we really want to take with us into these finals.”
Ten players on standby
Christian Wück’s squad is made up of 23 players, with another ten on standby. Of those ten, goalkeepers Maria Luisa Grohs (FC Bayern München), Lina Altenburg (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Laura Dick (TSG Hoffenheim) are currently part of the U23 squad, as are outfield players Vanessa Diehm (TSG Hoffenheim), Estrella Merino Gonzalez (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), Larissa Mühlhaus (Werder Bremen) and Sophie Weidauer (1. FC Union Berlin).
The Germany side will meet around midday on Monday in Frankfurt, as they begin their preparations for the first leg of the final against Spain in Kaiserslauten on Friday, 28th November (20:30 CET). The second leg will take place four days later on Tuesday, 2nd December (18:30 CET) in Madrid. Over 37,000 tickets have already been sold for the final home game of the year at the Fritz-Walter Stadion in Kaiserslauten. The tie is a repeat of the EUROs semi-final earlier this year in Switzerland, with Germany hoping for a better result than the one that saw them knocked out of the tournament.
