Nagelsmann: “Not an easy group, but one we can handle”

Following the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw in Washington, Germany’s group-stage opponents are now confirmed. The team led by coach Julian Nagelsmann will face Curaçao (Sunday, 14th June 2026), Côte d’Ivoire (Saturday, 20th June 2026) and Ecuador (Thursday, 25th June 2026) in Group E.
Julian Nagelsmann commented: “It’s not an especially easy group, but it’s one we’re capable of getting through. It’s good for us to be challenged – you don’t want three straightforward opponents. You want to be pushed and test yourself.”
Speaking about the opposition, the Germany coach added: “Curaçao will be interesting to analyse, but we won’t make the mistake of underestimating them. Côte d’Ivoire are a team you can beat, but not one you should take lightly. Ecuador are difficult to play against. They have three or four genuine top players.”
Nagelsmann on the hunt for a base camp
Regarding base camp for the World Cup, Nagelsmann stated: “We’re not revealing anything yet. Our team management have worked extremely hard and looked at a lot of options. I’ve already travelled around and visited several base camps myself. We’ll have excellent conditions and are confident we’ll be able to announce something very good soon.”
Germany international David Raum added: “It’s a group with very interesting opponents and definitely one we should be capable of getting through. I’m looking forward to it. They’re strong, exciting teams, and the prospect of facing my club teammate Yan Diomande at a World Cup makes me even more excited.”
