Germany to play friendly against Ghana in Stuttgart

The Germany national team are set to welcome fellow World Cup participants Ghana to the MHP Arena in Stuttgart on 30th March 2026 (20:45 CET) for a pre-tournament friendly. The original plan was to play Ivory Coast, however that had to be changed following December’s World Cup group stage draw, which placed them in Group E alongside Germany.
A Bundesliga champion in 2002 with Borussia Dortmund, Ghana’s Hamburg-born head coach Otto Addo is very familiar with German football. Julian Nagelsmann said: “We’re really looking forward to the game against Otto’s side. They’re strong on the counter-attack and will give us a taste of what to expect from the World Cup group stage game against Ivory Coast.”
As yet undefeated against Ghana
Ghana cruised their way to qualification for next year’s World Cup and will play in Group L against England, Croatia and Panama. The four-time AFCON winners have played Germany three times. In the first friendly in Bochum in 1993, Germany won 6-1. The two sides then met again in consecutive World Cup group stages, with Germany winning 1-0 in 2010 in South Africa, before a 2-2 draw in Brazil on their way to winning the tournament.
Germany will play three other games before the 2026 World Cup kicks off, the first of which is set for 27th March against Switzerland in Basel (20:45 CET). Two months later, they will play Finland in Mainz on 31st May (20:45 CEST), before heading to Chicago to take on World Cup hosts USA in the final pre-tournament friendly on 6th June (20:30 CEST).
