Zieler: "Self-belief on our side“

Off the pitch and straight into the media zone. Reporters ask, players answer. As always, DFB.de have rounded up all the quotes from Germany’s senior and youth internationals after their Bundesliga matches. Today we bring you the reaction from the likes of Ron-Robert Zieler, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller, Kevin Volland, Niklas Süle and Benedikt Höwedes.

Hannover 96 4-0 FC Ingolstadt

Ron-Robert Zieler: It is a very nice feeling, particularly the way in which we won today. We can be pleased for the first time in a long time. To keep a clean sheet, and get all three points – it will do us a lot of good. We took the lead through a set piece, and then scored an excellent second. After the second goal, we had self-belief on our side, and it became very difficult for Ingolstadt. There was a real difference in our play today, which started against Gladbach. We back ourselves going forward and have become a stronger outfit. Our development is not yet complete though.

Bayern München 2-0 Hertha BSC

Manuel Neuer: We didn’t have it easy today against a side that defended like a handball team. It was important for us to score twice in the first half. It was hard in the second half, as Hertha didn’t attack that much.

Thomas Müller: You never know against Hertha, especially when its 0-0, they defend well. But I had a good feeling after we were able to score two quick goals.

Hoffenheim 3-3 Gladbach

Kevin Volland: If you are winning a match 3-1, you have to win it. Particularly in the final minutes, we made it too easy for Gladbach. Gladbach are a team with top quality, and are capable of playing out of the tightest of situations. We made it difficult for them, and scored our goals at the right time. That makes it even more frustrating not to have taken all three points. We have to make sure we play with passion next week against Ingolstadt, just like against Gladbach. If we do so, then I am confident.

Niklas Süle: We are very disappointed as a team. We were in the game and presumed we would be able to close out the game for the win. After they scored the second goal, we had it in our heads that we have conceded a lot of late goals recently. That played a role. Having said that, there were a lot of good periods, and we scored three goals – plenty to build on.

Leverkusen 1-1 Schalke

Benedikt Höwedes: Sascha couldn’t do anything for their goal. We had to defend better earlier on, to avoid the situation altogether. The result is a bit frustrating, particularly as we had good chances on the break to build on our lead. We carved out multiple good opportunities; it is annoying not to have taken a big step forward.
