U19s qualify for Euros thanks to 6-0 win

Germany’s Under-19s have qualified for the European Championship finals in Greece from 6th to 19th July thanks to a comfortable 6-0 win over the Czech Republic in front of 1000 spectators in Walldorf. Slovakia, who were previously level on points with Germany, had to settle for a 2-2 in Mannheim with Ireland but had better Germany’s goal difference by five in order to overtake them in the group.

“I’m very proud of the team. The preparations weren’t easy but the players have worked their way into the tournament. The team has quality and we want to show that at the European Championships in Greece,” said Germany manager Marcus Sorg after the game.

Sané fires hosts in front

Leroy Sané from FC Schalke 04 began the scoring as he gave Germany the lead in the 20th minute following good work from Lucas Cueto (1. FC Köln). And the belief that they could qualify for the finals increased even more when the Schalke striker set up Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Gianluca Rizzo for the second goal only a few minutes later (27’).

Ingolstadt’s Max Christiansen increased the lead with his goal just after half time (47’), with Jonathan Tah (Fortuna Düsseldorf) providing the assist. Sané (64’) and Cueto (67’) both secured their braces to make it 5-0 and to put the qualification beyond doubt. 1899 Hoffenheim’s Nadiem Amiri rounded off the scoring in the 86th minute from the penalty spot.
