Three points and a goal for birthday boy Özil

Mesut Özil celebrated his 28th birthday with a great goal in Arsenal’s 3-2 win against Swansea City. After six consecutive wins, the Gunners now find themselves joint top in the league alongside Manchester City with 19 points. Both Ilkay Gündogan and Leroy Sané started for City, who stuttered to a 1-1 home draw against Everton. Without keeper Ron-Robert Zieler, champions Leicester City suffered a 3-0 win away at Chelsea.

Theo Walcott fired Arsenal in front with a first-half brace, before Gylfi Sigurðsson pulled one back for the Welsh side. Özil gave himself the perfect birthday present with a technically-brilliant goal, volleying in from Alexis Sanchez’s looped cross. Swansea ensured an exciting finish when they pulled a second goal back with 25 minutes left to play, before Granit Xhaka was given a red card. Shkodran also played a big part in keeping all three points in London.

Manchester City shared similar fortunes to Borussia Mönchengladbach in their Premier League match against Everton. Pep Guardiola’s side missed two penalties through Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Agüero either side of half time in a 1-1 draw at home to Everton. Romelu Lukaku put Everton in front with 25 minutes to go, but Diego Nolito equalised to save a point for the title hopefuls. The Spaniard was brought on for Sané, who impressed on his full debut for the Manchester side, while Gündogan played the full 90 minutes.

Ter Stegen and Barca celebrate comfortable win

Marc-André ter Stegen and FC Barcelona have returned to winning ways. Following their 4-3 defeat to Celta Vigo in their last league outing, Barca eased to a 4-0 home win against Deportivo La Coruna. Ter Stegen had very little to do in the match at the Camp Nou.

Rafinha put Barca two up with a quickfire double mid way through the first half, before Luis Suarez gave the Catalan side a 3-0 lead going into the break. Lionel Messi celebrated his return from injury with a goal three minutes after being subbed on in the second half. With 16 points from eight matches, Barca temporarily climb up to second in the table, with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid both yet to play.
