Thomas Schaaf appointed manager of Hannover 96

HANNOVER 96: Manager Thomas Schaaf is the man chosen to stop Hannover 96 slipping into the second Bundesliga. It was revealed by the club earlier today that the 54-year-old had signed a contract with the club until 30th June 2017. Schaaf will be officially presented on the 4th January. His predecessor Michael Frontzeck resigned on the 21st December.

“I know it wont be easy,” said Schaaf, who won the title and the cup with Werder Bremen during his time there. “Regardless, I am looking forward to the challenge of staying in the Bundesliga.” Schaaf’s last job was at Eintracht Frankfurt, but he left in May 2015.

“I noticed immediately during the discussions that Thomas knew what was expected of him,” said Martin Bader, CEO at Hannover 96. “His experience speaks for itself. He has years of success in the Bundesliga on his CV.”
