Ter Stegen destroys Mustafi's cup dreams

Barcelona have virtually guaranteed their place in the final of the Spanish Copa del Rey after a comfortable 7-0 victory over Valencia in the first leg of their semi-final match-up. It was a duel between two Germany internationals, goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Shkodran Mustafi. Ter Stegen was in goal for the Catalan outfit and was barely troubled, whereas Mustafi watched a large amount of the game from the sidelines, after picking up a red card in added time at the end of the first half for a professional foul. Neymar hit the post from the resulting penalty.

Luis Suarez grabbed a brace before the break and Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi followed it up with a hat-trick of his own. In the closing stages, Suarez added another two goals, taking his tally up to four in the game. The return leg will take place next Wednesday (20:00 CET) in the Estadio Mestalla in Valencia.

Klose’s Lazio beaten by Napoli

Lazio and World Cup winner Miroslav Klose’s seven-game winning streak came to an end with a 2-0 loss against league leaders Napoli. Klose was subbed off in the 70th minute.

Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon scored in the victory for Napoli, which was another setback for Lazio, who are chasing European football next season. There is already a nine-point gap between them and Roma in fifth. Napoli are leading the pack and extended their advantage over Juventus in second to two points, who were without injured World Cup winner Sami Khedira in their 1-0 victory over Genoa.

Trapp and PSG win again

On matchday 24 in the French Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain, who have Germany goalkeeper Kevin Trapp on their books, continued their winning ways. The capital club remained unbeaten with a 3-1 victory over Lorient and celebrated their 21st win of the season. The gap between them and Monaco in second is already 24 points.

Trapp & Co. had a moment of discomfort early on, conceding in the 19th minute from Raphael Guerreiro, who cancelled out Edinson Cavani’s early opener. The away team from Brittany had all their hopes crushed after half time though, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Layvin Kurzawa both hit the back of the net.

Including last season, PSG have gone unbeaten for 33 league games, a new record for France’s top flight. Their last defeat was a 3-2 loss to Bordeaux on 15th March 2015. The previous record stood at 32 games in row and was set by Nantes between 1994 and 1995.
