The Germany women’s U17 side has qualified for the European Championship, which will take place between 4th and 16th May in Belarus. Anouschka Bernhard’s side beat Austria 4-1 away from home in their crucial final fixture to top their second-round qualifying group with a 100% record.
After a tense first half that finished goalless, two goals in two minutes from Anna-Lena Stolze and Sarai Linder ten minutes into the second half gave Germany a vital lead at the Moser Medical Arena in Rosendorf. Stolze then repeated the feat herself, finding the net in both the 67th and 69th minute to complete her hat-trick. Jennifer Klein scored a consolation goal for the hosts in added time.
In total, six qualifying groups have been competing for a place at the European Championship over the month of March – and only the winner of each group will book their ticket to Belarus. Alongside Germany, Italy and Norway have secured their place as winners of Groups 4 and 5, whilst hosts Belarus will also take part. Alongside the six group winners and the hosts, the best runner-up will also book a place at May’s tournament.
