Setback for Özil, Mustafi and Arsenal

Arsenal suffered a setback in the Premier League title race on Tuesday evening. The Gunners, with both Mesut Özil and Shkodran Mustafi both in the starting line-up, were beaten 2-1 at home to Watford, which sees them drop down to third place. Tottenham Hotspur now lie in second place but level on points having drawn 0-0 awy at Sunderland. League leaders Chelsea were unable to extend their lead at the top after drawing 1-1 with title rivals Liverpool.

Arsène Wenger’s side went behind early following two quick goals from Younes Kaboul (10‘) and Troy Deeney (13’) and were unable to pull a goal back until midway through the second half when Alexis Sánchez fed Alex Iwobi to make it 2-1. Despite their efforts, the North London side were unable to find the equalizing goal.

Spoils shared in Liverpool

Liverpool, with Emre Can in the starting XI, went behind to a first half David Luiz free kick, before pulling level in the second half through Geoginio Wijnaldum. Simon Mingolet saved an 87th minute penalty from Diego Costa to ensure the Reds held a point against the league leaders, leaving Jürgen Klopp's side ten points off the top in fourth.
