Season over for Robben, Lewandowski breaks jaw

FC Bayern have suffered another setback on the injury front. Superstar Arjen Robben will be out for the rest of the season following a tear in his left calf muscle. The 31-year-old Netherlands international picked up the injury in Bayern’s DFB Cup semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund (2-1 after penalties). Robben, who has been out for the last five and a half weeks with an abdominal muscle tear, made his return as he came on as a substitute in the 68th minute but had to be brought off 16 minutes later.

The club has also announced that Robert Lewandowski has broken his upper jaw and his nose, as well as picking up concussion. It’s still unknown as to how long the 26-year-old striker will be out for, but an appearance in Bayern’s Champions League semi-final against FC Barcelona is looking unlikely. The Poland international collided with BVB goalkeeper Mitch Langerak just before the end of extra time but continued until the end of the game. Lewandowski spent the night at a clinic in Munich and underwent an MRI scan.

Thiago has been given the all-clear after he took a knock to his foot. The Spaniard took to Twitter to announce that he is not injured. Manager Pep Guardiola continues to be without the services of the injured Franck Ribéry, David Alaba and Germany international Holger Badstuber.
