Schweinsteiger and Götze miss World Cup qualifiers

National team coach Joachim Löw will have to do without midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mario Götze in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Austria in Munich on Friday and Faroe Islands on September 10.

Schweinsteiger has been ruled out of Germany's forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Austria in Munich on Friday and Faroe Islands on September 10 with a sprained right ankle.

Götze, 21, faces the longest lay-off after tearing a ligament in his right ankle. He is expected to be out for at least the next three weeks having returned from Prague in a plaster cast. The cast will be removed after a week and he will then spend up to two weeks in rehabilitation before returning to training.
