Schweinfurt excited to take on last season's finalists, Frankfurt

Regional side 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 weren’t left waiting for long. The ‘Schnüdel’, Schweinfurt’s nickname, were the first side to be picked in the draw, pitted against Eintracht Frankfurt, last season’s finalists. Tonight, the two cities along the Main face off (at 20:45 CEST), and the anticipation is high.

“It’s a great tie and we’re looking forward to a brilliant evening of football,” said Schweinfurt chairman, Markus Wolf. His sentiment is shared by Schweinfurt fans. Their home match at the Willy-Sachs-Stadion is sold out – 15,060 spectators are expected at the game.

Bobic: “Do not underestimate Schweinfurt”

“We cannot afford to underestimate Schweinfurt. It’s a good draw for our fans because it isn’t far for them to travel. We want to reach the next round,” said Frankfurt’s Sporting Director, Fredi Bobic. Eintracht head coach Niko Kovac continued, “We’re looking forward to a game against a really interesting and ambitious opponent.”

Eintracht breezed through the first round, beating regional side TuS Erndtebrück 3-0, while Schweinfurt qualified after beating match-favourites SV Sandhausen 2-1.

Eintracht and Schweinfurt have played each other three times in the DFB-Pokal. In 1967/68, Schweinfurt narrowly lost 2-1 after extra-time. In 1971/72, the cup was still played over two legs. Schweinfurt won the home leg 1-0 but were then convincingly beat 6-1 away from home.
