Rudy: "Yellow would have sufficed"

After each matchday, DFB.de gathers the thoughts of Germany's senior and youth internationals. After the weekend's fixtures, we spoke to Sebastian Rudy, Ilkay Gündogan, Mitchell Weiser and others.

Borussia Dortmund 3-1 1899 Hoffenheim

Sebastian Rudy: It's disappointing for the whole team as we battled superbly with ten men. We could have been 2-0 up by half time. I went in too late on Aubameyang and got sent off. I think yellow would have sufficed but I have to accept the decision. Up until then we'd done a great job.

Kevin Volland: It was very hard for us after the red card. We probably weren't bold enough on the ball. The first half was okay but we didn't take our chances. I could have put us 2-0 up, but Dortmund deserved their win in the end. The sending off was a harsh decision, as we'd been great up until then.

Ilkay Gündogan: We dominated the game in the second half but could have equalised earlier than the 80th minute. Thankfully, everything was fine in the end. We have a lot of quality to bring off the bench and the manager can be very happy with our current squad situation. We can rely on whoever gets picked. It was great to come from behind in a game that was so mentally demanding.

Marco Reus: Hoffenheim remained compact, defended with a back five and made things hard for us. The red card obviously helped us as we could attack better on the break. We put more pressure on and our opponents found it hard to hold out. We knew that TSG wouldn't be able to hold on for 90 minutes. We said at half time that we'd have to remain patient and move the ball around quicker. It was clear that Hoffenheim wouldn't be able to resist us in defence.

1. FC Köln 0-1 Hertha BSC

Mitchell Weiser: We were surprised by how deep Köln sat in defence but we still created chances. It was important that we took one of them and left with the win. All we wanted was three points and we managed to get them.

VfL Wolfsburg 0-2 FC Bayern München

Thomas Müller: Big points. Those are big points.

Mainz 05 3-1 Bayer Leverkusen

Christoph Kramer: As a team, we're defined by the fact that we always give 100 per cent. We didn't do that today. We were often too slow and at times a bit sedate, so we can't complain about the defeat.

VfB Stuttgart 1-2 Hannover 96

Ron-Robert Zieler: We worked hard for the win. I as particularly impressed with the way we went about our game today. To come from a goal down away from home is a true testament to the team's mentality – we never gave up. I'm delighted for Christian Schulz after his brace. He led the way as captain. It was a very special day for him.
