Rudi Voller to stay as Germany coach until World Cup 2006

Rudi Voeller will stay as DFB team manager until World Cup 2006 in Germany. "The DFB regards this as the right decision and believes it will give a positive impulse to the national team," DFB president Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder said on Friday.

Voeller had agreed to his contract beeing extended until after the World Cup finals 2006 in Germany before. "I accept the challenge and I am grateful for the trust that has been placed to me," Voeller said. The former german striker has been tied to a contract with Bayer Leverkusen as sports director. The contract with the Bundesliga Club will be cancelled on December 31, 2001. "We accept this decision and we will give Voeller the support that he needs," Leverkusen´s manager Reiner Calmund said.

The 41 year old Voeller works as team manager since July 2, 2000. In 15 games under Voeller the German team won nine and qualified for the World Cup 2002 in Japan and Korea. The german "Teamchef" now wants to concentrate on the next World Cup, where Germany plays against Saudi Arabia, Ireland and Cameroon in Group E. [db]
