Outstanding conditions: “Rielasingen excited for BVB”

The joy was clear to see when Sebastian Kehl drew 1. FC Rielasingen-Arlen against current champions Borussia Dortmund for the first round of this season’s DFB Pokal. BVB will travel to the sixth-tier side on Saturday, 12th August (kick-off 15:30 CEST).

The Bundesliga side described the minnow club as a “sign of solidarity”. Chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke spoke of “outstanding conditions”, whilst Rielasingen board member Peter Dreide said that it was “sensational, what our people from the Orga-Team are doing here.”

Five leagues separate Rielasingen from BVB. While this will be the sixth-division side’s first appearance in the DFB Pokal, Dortmund registered four wins in normal time in the competition last season, the most recent of which being their 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin to seal the title.
