National team draws against Bulgaria

The German national team made a 2-2 (1-1) draw against Bulgaria in Sofia in his their match after World Cup 2002. In the 21st minute, Bayer Leverkusen's Dimitar Berbatov took a pass from Krasimir Balakov at the edge of the penalty area and fired past German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann.

The crowd of 10,000 at the Georgi Asparuhov stadium had only two minutes to celebrate before Michael Ballack converted a penalty kick after Miroslav Klose was downed in the penalty area.

Five minutes into the second half, VfB Stuttgart's playmaker Krasimir Balakov added to the score from a penalty kick. It was up to Carsten Jancker to score the equalizer as he diverted a shot from Arne Friedrich in the 57th minute.

Germany coach Rudi Voeller had added several young players to the World Cup runner-up squad for Wednesday's friendly.

On Thursday, August 29th, team manager Völler will announce the German squad for the first EC qualifier of group 5 against Lithuania in Kaunas on Saturday, 7th of September (19.30 CEST).
