Leicester back to winning ways against Can’s Liverpool

English Champions Leicester City returned to winning ways in the their first game since sacking coach Claudio Ranieri with a 3-1 win over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Leicester beat a side containing German international Emre Can and moved away from the relegation places to 24 points. Liverpool missed the chance to move into the Champions League qualification places and remain fifth on 49 points.

A double from Jamie Vardy and a wonderful strike from Danny Drinkwater were enough for the home side, who started with former German international Robert Huth at centre back and World Cup winner Robert Ron Zieler on the bench. Philippe Coutinho scored the visitors consolation with twenty minutes to play.

Podolski loses Derby with Galatasary

World Cup winner Lukas Podolski was part of a Galatasary side which went down to a tight 1-0 defeat to rivals Besiktas, who strengthened their position at the top of the league. Galatasary now lie 10 points behind their city rivals in the table after Anderson Talisca’s goal was enough to seal victory for the visitors.

Over the course of the 90 minutes Besiktas brought on former German international Andreas Beck and ex-under 21s player Tolgay Arslan.
