Kroos and ter Stegen celebrate wins with Real and Barca

Toni Kroos and Real Madrid remain third in the title race. They had climbed temporarily to the top of the Spanish Primera Division after grinding out out a 3-1 win against Real Sociedad, until Atletico Madrid beat Rayo Vallecano 2-0 and Marc-André ter Stegen’s FC Barcelona enjoyed a 4-0 win over Real Betis to regain top and second spot.

As is often the case, the match winner for Real on the night was Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar registered his 13th and 14th goals of the season, though the match didn’t get off to the best of starts for the forward, when he missed a penalty in the 24th minute. Ronaldo made up for it shortly before the break, however, when he converted his second chance from the sport to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Bruma found an unlikely equaliser four minutes into the second half, but Ronaldo put Madrid back into the lead superbly from Marcelo’s corner. Having just come off the bench for Karim Benzema, Lucas wrapped up the match on the 86th minute to make it 3-1. Kroos pulled the strings for 90 minutes in defensive midfield, distributing many passes in a very convincing performance

Ter Stegen was an unused substitute for FC Barcelona, with Claudia Bravo taking place between the posts for the Spanish champions.
