Jones: “All credit to the team”

Germany’s women’s team have made the European Championship quarter-final after defeating Russia 2-0 in their third and final group-stage game. Having finished top of their group in the tournament, the eight-time champions and current title-holders are set to play Denmark on Saturday (20:45 CEST).

STEFFI JONES: We played a great game with a lot of nice passing moves that we executed well. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to convert our strong play into goals. We wanted to reach the quarter-final and that’s exactly what we’ve achieved – and deservedly so. All credit to the team, because they’ve given their all. Their passion, the effort, and the dedication are never lacking.

LENA GOESSLING: It was a lot of fun to play the full 90 minutes. It all went well today. We’re not out of energy yet – bring on the quarter-final!

DZSENIFER MAROZSAN: Goals aren’t important for me – what is important is that the team is successful. We played a sound game, but unfortunately we were just lacking the finishing touch of putting the ball into the back of the net. I’m happy that we won and topped the group. That was our goal.
