In the first game of the Algarve Cup 2009 Germany beat Finland 2-0 (0-0). Melanie Behringer scored the first goal in Albufeira (69.) after a pass by striker Inka Grings. In the additional time Kerstin Garefrekes scored in her 100th appearance in the women's national team to set the score to 2-0.
"It's always nice to score in the 100th game. Kerstin is a great player and we are glad to have her in our team", DFB-coach Silvia Neid said. "It took us 35 minutes, till we got the hold of the game. We really had to fight to get in the game, but then we made a good game."
In the Algarve Cup Germany will face China on friday (2.15 pm) in Albufeira and on monday in Faro against Sweden (2.15 pm). The last game of the tournament will take place on wednesday, 11th of march.
