FIFA honours Mayer-Vorfelder with privileged membership

Former DFB President Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder,74, has been given honorary FIFA membership. FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and General Secretary Urs Linsi announced the award during the 57th FIFA Congress on Wednesday in Zurich.

"I am truly touched by this honour. I'd like to thank the President for my last eleven years in the FIFA family. For the future, I wish FIFA unity and solidarity among the many members", said Mayer-Vorfelder. Franz Beckenbauer will succeed Mayer-Vorfelder in the Executive Committee.

Former UEFA President Lennart Johansson and the Scot David Will have also been named honorary Vice-Presidents of FIFA.
