DFB-Team to wear black ribbon in memory of crash victims

Germany will commemorate the victims of Germanwings flight 4U9525 that crashed in the French Alps at the game against Australia on Wednesday (20:30 CET). DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach announced at the UEFA Congress in Vienna that Joachim Löw’s side would wear a black ribbon in their first game of 2015. There will also be a minute’s silence before kick-off.

"It’s had an impact on everyone and it overshadows everything,” said Niersbach on the tragedy. “As a football family, we owe it to the victims and their families to pay our respects.” The plane, that was travelling from Barcelona to Düsseldorf, crashed and it has been reported that 150 people, including 67 Germans, have been killed.
