DFB-Team arrive in Salvador

The first stage of the DFGB-Team’s Olympic adventure has been completed. Horst Hrubesch’s men left Frankfurt at 22:15 CEST and 12 hours later arrived in Rio de Janeiro, before continuing to Salvador, where they will be based for the first stage of this summer’s championship.

Their first two games will take place in the Fonte Nova Arena in Salvador. On 4th August they face Mexico (22:00 CEST) before playing South Korea three days later (21:00 CEST). The group stage ends on 10th August when they come up against Fiji in Belo Horizonte (21:00 CEST).

“You got that Olympic feeling from the moment we got in the plane,” said Hrubesch. “We were travelling alongside Norway’s handball sides Chinese table tennis players and Irish athletes. It was a great atmosphere,” he added. The players will move into the Olympic Village if they reach the semis.
