DFB and adidas meet for talks

Representatives of the German football association (DFB) and adidas met on Tuesday in Frankfurt. Both sides agreed to continue with a thorough judicial examination of the situation.

The DFB forwarded an expertise to the representatives of the global sporting goods company. The expertise was written by Mainz University professor Dr. Mathias Habersack. If the two sides should still be in disagreement after further examination, adidas and DFB would then appeal to an arbitration court.

At the talks in Frankfurt, adidas restated it's position, that the existing contract has been extended until 2014. The DFB emphasised the firm stance to respect the result of all talks with adidas as well any written documents. At the same time, the DFB stressed the findings of Dr. Habersack's expertise.

DFB President Dr. Theo Zwanziger: "The DFB Chairmanship serves as a custodian for a non-profit estate. We can only reject an offer by Nike, that exceeds the adidas offer by such a wide margin, if we would be contractually bound to adidas. Despite conflicting views in our assessments of the judicial status quo, we had a very trustful talk."

Adidas was represented by Herbert Hainer, the Chairman of the Board, Michael Riehl, Director of Sportsmarketing, and Brand Manager Erich Stamminger. The DFB was represented by President Dr. Theo Zwanziger, General Secretary Horst R. Schmidt and the Deputy General Secretary Wolfgang Niersbach.
