Arsenal were dealt their first setback of the season as the FA Cup holders lost to Stoke City 1-0, despite Mesut Özil and Shkodran Mustafi’s best efforts.

Liverpool FC prepared for the second leg of their Champions League playoff against 1899 Hoffenheim perfectly. Jürgen Klopp’s side won 1-0 versus Crystal Palace without a rested Emre Can to take their tally for the season up to four points. Klopp said after the game, “It was tough. We had a lot of the ball but we needed a lot of patience as our opponents sat back.” Liverpool’s second leg against Hoffenheim takes place on Wednesday evening at Anfield with Klopp’s team heading into the game 2-1 up on aggregate.

Juve victorious in season opener against Cagliari

Italian champions Juventus won 2-0 at home without Sami Khedira in the starting XI. The former Stuttgart player entered the fray in the 62nd minute. Douglas Costa also started on the bench and came on in the 74th minute. Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain scored the goals for Juventus.
