Arsenal consolidate third spot

Arsenal, who included both Mesut Özil and Per Mertesacker in their starting Xi, strengthened their grip on third place in the Premier League on Saturday evening. They beat Norwaich City 1-0 in the Emirates Stadium thanks to a second-half goal from Danny Welbeck.

The Gunners now have 67 points, three more than Manchester City (64). They are two points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently second. League leaders Leicester City have 76 to their name and could wrap up the title tomorrow afternoon.

Gomez scores as Besiktas win

Mario Gomez helped his Besiktas side move one step closer to lifting the Turkish title. They beat Kayserispor 4-0 on Saturday thanks to goals from the Germany international (10’), Oguzhan Özyakup (23’), Ricardo Quaresma (34’) and Cenk Tosun (90’). Gomez has scored 24 goals this season.

Besiktas are seven points clear with three games to go, however, Fenerbahce could cut that advantage to just four points tomorrow.

Real claim another win

Real Madrid named a much changed side but remain in the hunt for the Primera Division title. They claimed a 1-0 win in Sociedad on Saturday afternoon. Wales international Gareth Bale grabbed the winner in the second half. Zinedine Zidane rotated his team for the game. Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema missed out through injury, whilst Toni Kroos, Marcelo, Pepe and Dani Carvajal were rested. Real face Manchester City in the second-leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.
