In collaboration with partner adidas, the DFB have released a special limited edition kit to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the association’s founding. The shirt symbolises the emotion invoked by the special moments experienced by both the team and the fans during this period, with both short- and long-sleeved versions of the anniversary shirt available, along with shorts and socks, as well as a special clothing range entitled ‘Culture Wear.’

The design of the anniversary kit is meant to replicate that worn by the Germany Men’s National Team during their successful 1974 World Cup campaign, when they went on to lift the trophy as host nation. The 125th anniversary shirt’s retro style, along with the classic black and white colouring, encapsulates the history of the DFB. The goalkeeper kit takes on a light blue shade. The jersey is made from a pinstripe fabric and features cuffs, a crew neck collar and a print of the German flag on the neck. The chest of the jersey is adorned with the adidas Trefoil logo and a specially embroidered crest to mark the 125th anniversary of the DFB, reminiscent of the special plaque that hangs at the association's founding site in Leipzig. The accompanying Culture Wear collection is inspired by the quarter-zip jumper worn by the founder of the sporting goods manufacturer, Adolf Dassler, as he holds the first-ever studded boots in the iconic photo, with the range reflective of the organisations’ extensive shared history.

Kit to make first outing against Italy

The special kit will be worn for the first time by the Germany Men’s National Team in Milan on 20th March in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final clash with Italy. The Women’s National Team will then first don the shirt in April.

To mark the release of the anniversary kit, adidas have produced a short film entitled ‘The Fabric of Legends,’ featuring significant figures, both past and present, in the DFB’s 125-year history. Names include Jule Brand, Nia Künzer, Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer, Rudi Völler and Florian Wirtz.

The DFB’s 125-year anniversary shirt is now available in the DFB Fanshop, the adidas online store, as well as selected adidas stores and other selected handlers. In adult sizes, the anniversary shirt is priced at €100 for the short-sleeved version and €110 with long sleeves. The shirt is sold at €75 (short sleeves) and €85 (long sleeves) for child sizes.
