Women's Cup Final to remain in Cologne until 2018

The Women’s DFB Cup Final will be played in Cologne for the next three years. There is also the option to extend the deal until 2020. The contract was signed by DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach and the Mayor of Cologne Jürgen Roters on the eve of this year’s final at the RheinEnergieStadion.

Over 16,000 tickets have already been sold for the match between 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam and VfL Wolfsburg on Friday (17:15 CEST).

Niersbach: "Right decision to give women’s football their own stage in Cologne"

"Cologne, with the stadium and great atmosphere in the surrounding areas, offers an ideal location for the Women’s DFB Cup Final. The event has developed fantastically and excels not only with regards to staging a top-class sporting event, but also provides an attractive programme for the whole family. It was the right decision to separate from the men’s final in Berlin and give women’s football their own stage in Cologne,” commented DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach. Cologne has hosted the Women’s DFB Cup Final since 2010.

"We’re delighted about being the venue of the Women’s DFB Cup Final for the next few years. Cologne not only offers an outstanding infrastructure, but also boasts an enthusiastic crowd, who truly value women’s football. This decision is evidence of the positive working relationship the two parties have built up over the past few years. The DFB can be sure that we will continue to support women’s football with the same high level of commitment in the future and that we will help to make the final an outstanding event," explained Jürgen Roters, Mayor of Cologne.

Ratzeburg: "The concept is just right"

"Our working relationship with our partners in the city and club, stadium operators and the Middle Rhine Football Association is exemplary. The concept of producing a rich and diverse programme of supporting events alongside a top-class sporting event is just right," remarked Hannelore Ratzeburg, Vice President of Women's and Girls’ Football.

“It’s a positive sign that the interest from fans and attendance has levelled off in areas other than those only concerning the women’s national team. We are continuing to work hard to make the Women’s DFB Cup Final more attractive and to optimise how it runs as well as developing the entire concept even further," stressed DFB general secretary Helmut Sandrock.
