Germany U17s were unfortunate not to get their qualification campaign for the European Champions 2018 in England off to a winning start. Coach Michael Prus and his team played against Norway in Patras, Greece. The game ended 2-2, with the scores standing 1-1 at half time but Norway’s equaliser came with virtually the last kick of the game. Noah Katterbach (9) and Antonis Aidonis (52) got the goals for Germany, both times firing the youth team into the lead only for Norway to twice come back.
The U17s quickly found their feet in the game, converting their dominance into the opening goal through 1. FC Köln's Noah Katterbach in the 9th minute. Norway however were undeterred and got themselves level in the 16th minute through winger Joshua Kitolano.
After the break, Germany emerged reinvigorated and through Hoffenheim’s Antonis Aidonis again took the lead in the 52nd minute. With the game looking done and dusted, and Germany destined to take home the three points, Norway's Noah Holm got in the last word, poking home the equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time earning a point for Norway.
Germany U17s will quickly have to put the disappointment out of their minds with the next European qualifier taking place at 15:00 CET on Saturday when they will play against Greece in Patras. Three days later, the U17s will play their final qualification game against Scotland in Nafpaktos at 12:00 CST.
