Topsy-turvy opener in the Premier League: Özil wins with Arsenal

Thanks to a late sucker-punch winner, Arsenal made a winning start to the Premier League season with world cup champion Mesut Özil in the starting line-up. Substitutes Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud turned the game around for the Gunners with goals in the 83rd and 85th minute respectively against 2015/16 champions, Leicester City.

They had taken the lead after just two minutes through record signing Alexandre Lacazette. However ex-Mainz player Shinji Okazaki (5th minute) and hotshot Jamie Vardy (29th minute) turned the game on its head before Danny Welbeck equalised for Arsenal just before half-time. In the second half, Jamie Vardy headed the away side into the lead before Ramsey and Giroud struck back.

Özil played all 90 minutes for the FA Cup champions, Shkodran Mustafi did not come off the bench whilst Per Mertesacker was not in the squad. The world cup winner in Brazil suffered a cut to his head during the Community Shield win over Chelsea (4-1 aet). Meanwhile former German international Robert Huth missed out for Leicester with a foot injury.
