Timo Werner fires Leipzig to first victory against FC Bayern

Germany international Timo Werner scored the winner in RB Leipzig’s first ever win against record champions FC Bayern München. The Confed Cup winner scored Leipzig’s second goal in the 2-1 victory, after Naby Keita had cancelled out Sandro Wagner’s opener.

Wagner headed Bayern in front after 12 minutes after a wonderful ball from James Rodriguez. The ex-Hoffenheim forward is in Joachim Löw’s squad for the upcoming friendlies against Spain and Brazil, just like his opposite number tonight, Timo Werner, who began the game on the bench before coming on for the injured Marcel Sabitzer. The hosts leveled in the 37th minute when Naby Keita forced the ball past Sven Ulreich.

Despite the defeat Bayern can clinch their 28th Bundesliga title on the next matchday, while Leipzig remain sixth but just two points behind fourth.
