Playmaker of the year: Kroos comes second behind Messi

World Cup winner Toni Kroos came second in a vote by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). Kroos received 90 points in the Playmaker of the Year award, voted by experts and journalists from 91 countries. The Champions League winner finished behind Lionel Messi, who won the award with 247 points.

Arsenal’s Mesut Özil came 13th with six points. German international Toni Kroos won the award in 2014, but Lionel Messi has now won the past three times.
