World Cup winner Mesut Özil helped Arsenal into the final 16 of the FA Cup with his second goal of the season. The midfielder scored the Gunners’ second in the 3-2 victory over second-tier Brighton and Hove Albion in the 24th minute of the FA Cup fourth round tie. Theo Walcott struck early on to hand the Reds the lead with former Dortmund man Tomas Rosicky also getting on the scoresheet in the second half. Per Mertesacker did not feature for Arsenal.
Last-gasp defeat for Lukas Podolski: The German World Champion was unable to make progress with Inter Milan in their race for the European places. A week after their 0-0 draw to relegation candidates FC Empoli, Inter lost 1-0 at home to FC Torino through an Emiliano Moretti goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time on Sunday.
Podolski was always a livewire for Inter and had the best chance in the 13th minute. Torino keeper Daniele Padelli was able to tip a strong shot from 15-metres out from the Germany international round the post. Podolski was substituted in the 65th minute.
