Niersbach hoping for a Bayern and Real final

Wolfgang Niersbach is hoping that the Champions League final on 6th June in Berlin will be between German champions Bayern München and Real Madrid. “From a neutral point of view, I would like Bayern to reach the final,” said the DFB President, who handed over the Champions League trophy to Berlin mayor Michael Müller in place of UEFA President Michel Platini.

“A final between Bayern and Real Madrid – what more could you want in football,” commented Niersbach. “That would be perfect.” Berlin mayor Michael Müller added: “I don’t have to be as neutral so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Bayern. It would be great to see a German team in the final.”

Before reaching the final in Berlin, Bayern, who won the German title for the 25th time on Sunday, will have to overcome FC Barcelona in their semi-final (6th and 12th May). Real Madrid will take on Juventus in the other semi-final (5th and 13th May). The UEFA President was unable to visit Berlin on Monday as planned due to a personal bereavement.
