New league champions Wolfsburg hire new coach

Just a few hours after their triumphant 5-1 win over Werder Bremen, which sealed their first ever title in the Bundesliga, new German champions VfL Wolfsburg announced that Armin Veh follows Felix Magath as the team’s new coach. Hans-Dieter Pötsch, head of Wolfsburg’s supervisory board, made the announcement late Saturday night.

Wolfsburg plans to present Veh, who had led Stuttgart to a championship in the 06/ 07-season, at a press conference on Monday. Current coach Felix Magath leaves the new German champions for Schalke 04.

The 48-year old Veh had last coached VfB Stuttgart (Feb 2006 to Nov 2008). His other clubs include FC Augsburg (1990-95, 2003-04), SpVgg Greuther Fürth (1996-97), SSV Reutlingen (1998-2001) and Hansa Rostock (2002-03).

“I’d have picked Veh as may successor myself”, said Felix Magath. “He is the right choice, because he let’s teams play offensive-minded football.”
