In the form of Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm and Toni Kroos, three German World Champions have made it into the UEFA.com Team of Year. This is the result of the poll initiated by the Union of European Football Associations, UEFA. Current Bundesliga champions Bayern München featured heavily on the shortlist. Alongside Neuer and former DFB-Team skipper Lahm, Austrian David Alaba and Dutchman Arjen Robben have also been voted into the best XI.
Over 8.6 million fans used a variety of social-media channels to pick the Team of the Year which also includes Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris St. Germain). Ronaldo topped the ranking with 623,046 votes. Lahm was the most popular German player (506,781), ahead of Neuer (500,293) and Kroos (310,974).
