Löw heads DFB delegation at Confederations Cup

The Confederations Cup is well underway, and the German national team is there – at least in part. On Monday lunchtime, a DFB delegation headed by national team coach Joachim Löw, his assistant Hans Flick and manager Oliver Bierhoff arrived in Sao Paulo after an 11-hour flight. The German party was greeted by typically warm Brazilian hospitality, but atypical weather, as sporadic showers fell from a grey sky with air temperatures of 18°C. After completing airport formalities, the party transferred by bus to their hotel near Sao Paulo, a half-hour journey marking the first stage of a working trip to Brazil.

Coach Löw is visiting the host nation for the 2014 World Cup for the first time, and said his first impressions were positive. “You sense the passion Brazilians have for football. I've only spent a few hours in Brazil, but I can already very well imagine the festival of football we'll see at the World Cup a year from now." The Confederations Cup is a test run for the World Cup, and one of the reasons Löw is watching the curtain-raising tournament is to monitor potential opponents. He and Flick will fly to Fortaleza tomorrow for Brazil's evening meeting with Mexico. “I'm interested to see how Mexico get on against Brazil," commented Flick, “and naturally, we're looking forward to the atmosphere at the ground when the Selecao play in front of their home crowd. I'm sure it’ll be very impressive."
