Jones names her squad for the SheBelieves Cup

Steffi Jones spoke about the return of the Wolfsburg player, “Lena and I have spoken openly about things on numerous occasions." Goeßling added, "It's good that we have resolved everything. Now I’m really looking forward to being part of the team and helping them in this competition.”

Jones: "We’ve been looking at Sharon for a long time"

These two players have very contrasting international records, while Lena Goeßling already has 97 caps under her belt; Sharon Beck is yet to make her first appearance. The 22-year-old debutante has been called up for her performances in midfield for Hoffenheim. Jones said, "We’ve been looking at Sharon for a while now. She’s been consistently performing well for Hoffenheim and deserves her place in the squad. Now we want to see how she performs on an international stage.”

Simone Laudehr (recovering from injury), Carolin Simon and Kristin Demann will not be able to take part in the competition. The 23-woman strong squad will also be accompanied by five players on standby, who can be named until the first match of the tournament and will include Melanie Leupolz. Jones explained, "After her recent injuries, Melly needs to get back playing regularly for her club and get into the rhythm of regular football.”

The national squad will travel to the USA on 25th February. For the women, the cup will kick off on 2nd March at 13:00 MEZ in Columbus, Ohio against the USA.
